Rent or own? Tenure type in Australia

Ownership with a mortgage is the most common tenure type in Australia.

The 2021 Census reveals that ownership with a mortgage (35.0%), outright ownership (31.6%), and renting (31.2%) are the three main tenure types of all occupied private dwellings in Australia. These proportions stayed relatively unchanged from the 2016 Census.
