The Goldfields Esperance region is expansive, located in the south eastern corner of Western Australia and covering a land area of more than 950,000 square kilometres – approximately a third of our state and an area larger than the state of Victoria. The region incorporates ten local government areas, being: the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the Shires of Coolgardie, Dundas, Esperance, Laverton, Leonora, Menzies, Ngaanyatjarraku, Ravensthorpe and Wiluna. Our lands are comprised of red deserts, vast mineral wealth, the magnificent Great Western Woodlands and the iconic white, sandy beaches of the Southern Ocean. We are renowned for our lifestyle, friendly people, a great sense of community, all this combined with excellent facilities and great professional opportunities. As the largest region in Western Australia, our regional communities and economic activity are relatively isolated from the major urban centres and capital cities of Australia, however this drives an entrepreneurial and pioneering spirit amongst its people, strong and resilient communities, and the freedom to live in one of the most beautiful, natural, safest, and least populated areas of the world. The Goldfields Voluntary Regional Organisation of Councils (GVROC) was formed in 2007, with the overarching principle to create a strategic alliance of Local Governments, who contribute and work together to ensure development and retention of infrastructure and community services and undertake joint economic development initiatives, through grant funding with the State and Federal governments plus the private sector, to benefit the region.
Regional Development Australia (RDA) Goldfields Esperance is an Australian Government initiative forming part of a national network of Committees that represent the interests of regional, rural and remote communities all across Australia. Our organisation comprises of local leaders who work across government, business and community groups to support economic and community development outcomes, informing the community of Australian Government programs and initiatives available to support development of the Goldfields Esperance region. Our fundamental mission is to advocate for the Goldfields Esperance region through raising federal awareness of local needs and encouraging collaboration via all tiers of government, furthering the mission to support development of our region.
