Our Region
The Charters Towers Region is located in North Queensland, about 136 kilometres south-west from Townsville and 1,300 kilometres north of the Brisbane CBD. Spanning an impressive 68,580 square kilometres, the region is home to major townships including Pentland to the west, Greenvale to the north, Hervey Range to the northeast and Ravenswood to the southeast, and a constellation of other vital communities such as Homestead, Bluewater Springs, Belyando Crossing, Balfes Creek, and Hidden Valley.
The key economic drivers in the Charters Towers region are Mining, Agriculture, Forestry, and Fishing, and Health Care and Social Assistance. The graph below illustrates Industry Value Add, which represents the total market value of goods and services produced by an industry, after deducting the value of goods and services used in the production process.
